On the main road near my house N11 from Cabinteely Village to Cornelscourt there is a dual speed limit in place.

For cars in the 2 inner lanes the speed is 80kph and cars are depicted on the sign.

For the bus lane the speed limit is 60kph and a bus is depicted.

While this may be a stupid question, what if you are a car in the bus lane? Which limit are you governed by?

The bus lane limit. The limit is for the lane not vehicle, which also have different limits depending on the type of bus and how it carries passengers.

As Del2005 has stated the limit applies to the lane and not the vehicle, a bus in the right lane/s could do the 80 kmh speed (subject to any lower limits for the vehicle type, for example if a bus is designed for standing passengers then it is limited to 65 kmh), and any other vehicle in the bus lane could only do 60 kmh etc.

Technically the signs don't confirm to the correct sign requirements if they show cars on them which is misleading, only the bus lane speed limit should have the bus symbol on them like the example shown on page 31.
