Humax Freesat Boxes

    Hey all,

So my current deal with Sky runs out in a few weeks and they're not making me any decent offers to stick with them after that, so I'm considering just getting in Freesat instead... plus I watch very little live TV these days anyway (mostly just the news and live football on RTE) - BUT as an eir fibre customer I am now getting the BT channels through the Sky box so would prefer to keep those.

The question then is if the Humax boxes still the best replacements for a Sky+ HD box in terms of performance, features and ease of use? Do I need the latest €200 model or are the older variants still worthwhile?

Is there a way of splitting the feed at the box end without running cables from the dish? - the idea being that I'd stick a smaller Sky multiroom box I have in for BT, and use the Freesat box the rest of the time.
I know the preferred option would be to run a third feed from the dish but as I'm renting I don't really want to spend more than necessary as I'll be moving out in 6 months anyway, plus because there's a load of trees behind the apartment block I'm in, the feed is coming from a shared dish higher up the block so doing this would mean moving my dish onto the neighbours part of the wall etc..

    Any feedback much appreciated :)

I would be in a similar position, don't watch a lot of tv, etc. I use the Humax hb1000, (about 100 euro, Netflix, you tube, ITV hub) and an old HDD for recording, a Sky multiroom box (drx595,10 euro on adverts) (record one channel watch another). Saorview tv with USB stick all on one remote, No subs, all done for 150euro plus tv.
