Stockholm tar is good as a disinfectant and keeps flies away, they were probably tagged when the flies were busy.
In the interest of animal welfare, you should cut out any tags that are infected and spray the ears, veterinary aluminium spray over the alamycin spray would be good and stockholm tar to keep the flies away.

+1 on cobalt deficiency for the scabby ears. B12 drench will clear it up. The same lads will probably have dry looking coats as well.
