Work displinary (p.i.p)

I was put on a performance improvement plan at work (pip) due to some mistakes I made. I am about to go for a displinary where I'm about to receive a written warning which will be kept on file for 12 months. I know after this meeting I have only 4 weeks and then I'll be fired. I am desperately trying to find a new job because the thoughts of being fired is unbearable.
However my question is if I get a new job will my current employees give me a bad reference and include that I was on a displinary or written warning in my reference? Because this Is going to be very hard to get a new job with.
I'm really worried about everything as I know my job is on the line and a potential new job could be ruined too if this will be on my reference

Normally new employers don't ask for a reference from your current employer. Can you get a reference from earlier employers?

Yes I have previous references from previous jobs but I thought they would always want your current job as a reference?

Your current employer will not (Normally) be asked for a reference.

Look at it from your current employers perspective.
It is in their interest that you move on without them having to fire you.
It reduces their exposure to unfair dismissals in case they do not follow procedure correctly.

    Best of Luck.

OP are you sure they're going to let you go after 4 weeks? Has the disciplinary meeting come about while the PIP was in place or as part of that whole situation?

I have a different experience with references in that I did need to provide one from my most recent employer as it was the most relevant to roles I was applying for. However if you go through a recruitment, maybe talk to them about seeing if you can use references from other employers you've had.

Your employers cannot put anything into a reference that is not true and for that reason, a lot of references will only state the dates you worked there. Maybe if you do get handed notice then discuss with them a potential reference but I would use it only if specifically asked for it just in case.

It's really hit and miss with the whole reference thing.

Some managers are so happy to unload a bad employee that they will build them up in a reference.
Others, particularly if it's been a nasty experience will indeed include the dirty laundry, which is ok as long as it can be backed up as fact should there be a query.

You've no real way of knowing without testing the waters. It wouldn't be unusual to have a friend make contact and ask for a reference for you to see what they say.

A written warning is just that, a warning, you cannot be fired after a written warning for incidents previous to the written warning, your performance would need to continue to be unsatisfactory or new incidents occur.
Why do you say you will be fired in 4 weeks?

Read your company policy on disciplinary procedure. If you have not received it, ask for it.

In the mean time, look for a new job, only you know how your manager will treat a reference request, however, most managers will be glad to get rid of an employee on a warning, so giving a bad reference will not be in their best interest.
