For all you pet owners out there how do you guys transport your fury friends overseas. Say I was a Dog Owner with a larger Labrador how in tarnations do I get a fairly large animal such as this to the airport, check him in and bring him on a long voyage while i'm sitting with the passengers. It sounds extraordinary.

Carrier. They go in the hold. Some airlines simply don't do it and others limit the routes

It all depends on the airline policy. Many years ago, family member moved from Europe to South America. The dog traveled in a crate, in the cargo hold.
I remember them checking the dog in with their luggage.

So who keeps an eye on them in the hold. Does someone come along and feed them and pet them.

If I remember correctly , there's a special hatch the crew can access to check on them and provide water when needed.

No because this doesn't happen.bulk cargo hold is where animals travel unless it's guide dog etc,if bulk cargo heater system is inop the animals don't travel, saw it almost happen recently.

I recall traveling on an Aviaco DC-9 flight in Spain, many years ago. When this lady sat beside me, complete with a Budgie cage and the inmate of said cage. :)

I was flying out of Dublin a few weeks ago. I went past security and just waiting when I see a lady walking her small dog. It was one of these handbag type of dogs but the dog wasn't in a handbag. Which means the dog must be flying with the passengers. Does that happen here?

Get it classified as an emotional support animal and it can travel with you in the cabin. At JFK recently, we were held back to allow Kimora Lee Simmons plus large entourage and even larger dog get through security first. The dog's leash had to go through the scanner and it got to wander of its own accord. Needless to say that it wsn't supervised and no one was being supported, emotionally or otherwise.

I've been on quite a few domestic flights in the US where dogs, presumably emotion support dogs, were in the cabin. Never seen any problems. Some airports even have dog toilet areas.

I've gone through security and seen passengers with dogs in Dublin and Spain. Never seen any in the cabin. Shame really.

This is complete hollocks... the animal will travel as live cargo, you will collect it at your destination.

"Service dogs" on long haul sometimes travel in the cabin. Generally the owners are loaded and they travel up front in their own business class seat. I kid you not. I remember someone embibing some fizzy stuff one day told me they thought they were have illusions when one minute they thought they saw a dog sitting up in a seat on the other aisle and the next minute he was gone(lay down in seat). This happens rarely and the owners sparingly feed and water their dogs prior to the flight. It's happened me a few times and there was zero issues.

I travelled with my cat in a soft bag out of dublin not too long ago. Happens if the airline supports it and you book it with them

They go in the hold with the luggage but in a cage. They do have to sometimes go through quarantine first before travelling.
