My mum got a letter today calling her for jury service, starting on a Wednesday. Problem is she has a holiday booked starting the Monday after. Is this a sufficient reason to get out of it? She's not leaving the country but it was booked through a third party and paid in full, any cancellation or change would cost her.

She also helps care for my Granny, who lives at the opposite end of the country, for a week every month. She's been doing it regularly for 2 years now but is not an official carer so there's no way of proving it. She would be due home from that on the day she was called.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

tell her to bring the receipt and proof of the holiday to the County Registrar or simply respond to the letter in the pre paid envelope with her reason for being unable to fullfill the duty.
