Medical Card discrimination?

Hi, I'm currently in the process of renewing my medical card, I have all the forms printed out and just need to find a doctor to sign them. But I've recently moved to Walkinstown in South Dublin, and cannot find one GP that will take me on. As soon as they find out I'm medical card eligible it's "sorry, we're not taking on new patients right now".

Can someone explain why I can't see a doctor? Is it because of the medical card or is there some other reason? I had no problem with my last card living in Drumcondra, I had a doctor there, but surely after moving to the other side of the city I can find someone over here? If not I'll try him again but it's not ideal, and I don't understand the reasons for it.

Just as a long shot, does anyone know of any GPs in Dublin 12 that accept medical cards?

GP in general are under pressure to reduce the number of patients they see during a day for health and safety reasons. This has forced to move from a walk-in service to an appointment only service.

This has resulted in them refusing to add new medical card patients onto their lists as there are already significant delays in getting appointments for existing patients. GPs in the Walkinstown area seem to be particularly affected by this.

Thanks for the info, I'll try my old doctor and see if he'll take me on

Have you tried the medical clinic at the shops on St Peter's road.
I'm there and find them very good. Also have clinics in old bawn and drimnagh.

I actually live on St Peter's Road and it was the first place I tried as it's literally a minute's walk from my house, but no.

I'll try ringing those places in Drimnagh and Old Bawn, thanks for that!

    It's a central number.
Problem is the one dr died and another left last week. One due to start in another few weeks.

Terenure medical centre accept GMS. Great docs, not to far from your area.

    Reread your op.
Double check the form. It only needs signing if your changing doctors.

Yeah, I'll have a look at the form again. Although I would rather change doctors anyway as my last one didn't really seem to care that much
