are costs or claims awarded in cort subject to tax?

Hi, I was unable to find anything online to confirm so thought i would ask here. If someone is award costs in a court case i.e for a injury claim or against another person/employer, are these subject to tax or is does it depend on the case? Thanks

I'm open to correction but in my experience, lost wages are calculated minus tax and things like medical expenses have already had VAT paid on them so neither of them would be taxable. That just leaves special damages such as pain and suffering. I don't believe they are subject to tax.
