Following up after applying online

An etiquette question- does the squeaky wheel get the oil? Eg if you applied for something on Indeed or Monster and you apply online- do you follow up with a call if there are contact details on the ad? If you do, is there a reasonable amount of time or do you get on it the next day?

I'm just pretty used to either not hearing anything back or else eventually getting a pretty standard 'don't fulfill the requirements' type response.

I think you've pretty much answered your own question, actually.

Nothing wrong with a brief "I'm really interested in the position and I wanted to make sure they received my application in good order" after a few days. If you feel pushy and the phone person is cheerful, I have had good luck on occasion with "Might they be available?". Of course, whenever you are speaking to someone before they even announce interviews, you should be on a level of best behaviour that would make the Queen want to go back to finishing school.

Hey op - if there are details available, I don't see any harm in reaching out. Worst that happens is they don't get back to you, but if you do get in touch you're highlighting your interest in the role.
