Car Insurance for Hire Purchase

    Hi,

    I am thinking about buying a car from a dealer using a hire purchase finance option. However, now when I contaced my insurance company to ask how to update the information about the new car (should I go for it), they said that they dont insure financed cars.

    That seems quite odd to me as financed cars must be a decent chunk of the market they are missing out on then.

    Does anyone know if only certain insurance companies deal with financed cars?

    Also, I know that a personal loan or a CU loan would prevent this but I am still interested to know how this works.

    Maybe contact the insurance ombudsman >> https://www.financialombudsman.ie/

    and ask them for clarification around the legality of such a policy as I'd imagine that would impact more than half the motorists in this country.
