I am interested in a ductless HRV system to fit to my upstairs bedrooms and maybe the utility downstairs. I would like to hear any users reviews or experiences of people that have such ventilation. DCV sounds good but i would like some heat recovery too.

Have you tested for airtightness? If so, what was the result?
No point in doing HR if a/t is poor.

I haven't tested for airtightness but the house is new and when it was built we put the airtight seal around the doors, windows and the airtight membrane to the first floor ceiling. So it can't be that bad. We open windows every day but the problem is there is slight condensation in the bedrooms when you wake up in the morning. Viking have a unit called Fresh-R and they reckon it will ventilate the whole house from one room. There is also self contained heat recovery units which you can put into the 4 inch vent hole in the wall. One of these in each bedroom might suit. I'd just like to hear some users experiences.

Hi straight, sorry to jump in but I too would love to hear some experiences of people with these "self contained heat recovery units". I have been chasing the vendor in Galway for examples but nothing coming back which is strange

MickTheMan, one problem with waiting to decide to invest in HRV until after the first a/t test is that you generally do the test after first fix but all the ducted HRV installers are telling me that they need to get their ducts in before first fix. It is the ultimate catch 22. I think I am going to have to take a leap of faith and hope I get a decent a/t test OR wait and install non-ducted HRV after a/t test if I get a decent a/t result. Ahhh, I feel like my head will explode. I think it's time to start praying

Your targeted or contracted a/t level is specified in the contract with the builder. It is up to the builder to achieve this target. No praying necessary :)

Thanks Mick, this is true. He's a good builder, I need to learn to trust. Praying will get me nowhere
