Proof of address for car rental Dublin Airport.

Just booked a week of car rental out of Dublin airport via Irish car hire website. In the confirmation email it quotes the following

    "ON ARRIVAL
In order to rent a vehicle from us, you must have your driving licence (UK drivers must have DVLA code) and credit card (in your own name) with you on collection of the vehicle. Unfortunately we will be unable to rent a vehicle to a customer who does not fulfill these criteria and we will not be held liable for any costs incurred if a customer is unable to pick up their vehicle as a result of failing to produce the above items or not knowing their credit card 'Chip and Pin' number.

***PLEASE NOTE*** in addition to the above, we require that the main driver provides 2 forms of proof of address which match the address on your driving licence. One must be a bank or credit card statement for the credit card provided on collection of the vehicle. The second must be a utility bill dated within 8 weeks of the pickup date. Mobile phone, insurance quotations or council tax bills will not be accepted."

The issue with this scenario is that I hold an Irish licence whilst living in the UK. Can furnish them with proof of address but will be for 2 different addresses. Will they require this info at the desk in Dublin airport??? I mostly used Belfast in the past and never had issues but i remember being done before at Dublin airport when renting using debit card. Loathe to change the Irish licence for a UK one.
Anyone any experience of this burden of proof?
    Thanks

I've never had to jump through hoops like that...hiring next month, must check the requirements!

Personally if I were you, I'd go somewhere else if they don't have conditions like that

Already booked unfortunately and it carries a 15% cancellation fee so am a bit scuppered if they pursue this. Hope it won't be an issue, and that common sense will prevail.

    Makes no sense really.

Using utility bills or bank statements as proof of address is common only in UK and Ireland afaik.
I'd imagine most people renting cars at Dublin airport are not from those countries...

I rented in Dublin in January from Europcar (booked through broker rentalcars.com) and no one ever asked me for utility bill or bank statement.
Just the usual licence and credit card.

Enterprise did ask me for such documents at the checkout (apparently they do for Irish residents). I laughed loudly and got the car 3 minutes later...

If the information wasn't provided before the confirmation, I can't see how they can enforce the cancellation fee.

Rented lots of cars in lots of places and never come across this one.

That's a bizarre request tbh. Never needed more than a credit card and license to rent a car. Have a booking for Gatwick on Wednesday and none of that needed.

I've seen this requirement many times when renting from various companies using Argus as a broker, like the OP I have an Irish license however live outside Ireland. I usually try to have some old bank statements with me however have never been asked to provide in about 10 rentals over the previous few years with several different companies.

I used carhire.ie who are similar to argus in that they are a booking website and give you a voucher which is then redeemed with the car hire company. I do need to bring 2 forms of address confirmation with me for the credit card - confirmed with them on phone today. The license is fine and I don't need proof of address regarding it.

Who is the rental booked with? Not the broker but the actual company.

Proof of address is generally required with debit card rentals and those with a credit card get by without any hassle.

ye - call the actual rental company and see. Some companies only require proof of address under certain circumstances (i.e. Enterprise once did if you paid by debit card etc). Normally a credit card in the main drivers name is enough, but if you have proof of address make sure you have it at the address of your credit card.

I am often in the same scenario in reverse (loath to change the UK one for an Irish one :D ) and have never had issue.

Ring them to be sure tho - but will probably be ok with whatever proof you have. If there is any question on the phone, get them to make a not on your reservation.

    Hi Topdecko

Can I ask how you got on? Were you allowed to rent without producing proof of address?

    Have a similar problem myself.

    Thanks!

    Hey Posthaste,
Wasn't an issue after all. They did need proof of address for the credit card but just copied licence and that was that. Should be fine as long as you have a credit card.
    Good luck.
