What KVA for new warehouse

We have changed recently from a communal meter to a independent meter for a commercial warehouse. The unit has a 36KVA Supply with a 99.36 + vat per month PSO levy.

This cost is crazy as its 3 times the power bill and obviously we need to decrease the KVA to the building to reduce the levy. What would the recommended levy be for our warehouse, all we have is a few pc's a roller door and a few son lamps with a 34.11 per month esb power bill.

A good starting point would be to put together a load schedule. From that you can work out the maximum possible load (everything on to the maximum at once) and the normal load profile (with diversity and utilization factors applied).

It is possible that you have a Maximum Import Capacity that is larger than required which is generating a larger PSO levy.

Page 27 here shows the current and new PSO rates for 2016/17

Did you inherit the 36kVA or how was it arrived at, normally there is a fee to reduce the MIC but if you got inadvertently stuck with the 36 then you may get a freebie down grade to what is the correct MIC for you.
There was a scheme a few years ago where they would reduce, once only, for free.

Medium and Large profile customers (maximum import capacity of equal to or greater than 30kVA)
    €33.14/kVA current annual charge
    €40.87/kVA 2016 2017 annual charge
    €3.41/kVA 2016 2017 monthly/kVA charge
    23.5% increase

    the 99.42 = 36 by (33.14/12) which you know anyway :)

What is your average MD on the bill?

You need to reduce the MIC to just above that.

We are actually using less than 100 units per month and last 2 months were 186 units which cost 34.11 so power cost to this warehouse is 15.06 euros per month and a 99.36 levy per month on top.

There is nothing in the ware house apart from the following

Roller door which couldn't be any more than 3kw
    1 x Sont fitting .400kw
Printers. PC's,Wifi.Alarm,Florescent,Phone which couldn't be any more than 1Kw

So maximum load would be less than 6KW

This is the 4th month now we have been charged as only noticed it a few days ago bi you reckon we could get a credit as its nuts.

They won't credit you but you need to talk to them about reducing the MIC limit.
It doesn't matter what the usage is (in this context), you are paying for peak demand.
