A 1933 British penny will be sold this week at auction in the USA by Heritage Auctions in Dallas. It should result in a world record price for this coin.

I wonder would they have got a better price if they sold it in London?

My childhood was peppered with the possibility of coming across one of these in loose change in an era when british and irish coniage was interchangeable.

Cracking example but just don't have the funds at the moment.:o

That 1933 British (currency) penny realised $197,000 at auction last Friday morning.

    That's €174,411.06 or £151,920.22 in today's money !

Not bad for something with a face value less than 1c !!!

In May 2016 a ‘pattern’ British 1933 pennies sold at an auction in London for a record GB£72,000
This equates to €82,734.72 or US$93,515.49

Patterns are usually valued at "half of the price" of a circulating 1933 penny
