OK so the story is that i recently found out that someone i know very well is doing the following on a regular basis.
    • Driving with no insurance
    • No Tax - on own car when running - ("Why should i have to pay car tax??????")
    • No NCT- as per No.2
    • Driving with there own 2 year old in car
    • Borrows a car and has openly stated that if he crashes will just claim he is the owner of the car ( "sure how will the police find out?")
    • Since found out they have no valid license (had leaner but has expired)

Stats this is all fine as he has never had a crash in 15 years?

Stunned was not the word, i nearly fell over when i found out.

So the question remains, what would you do?

    Confidential Line - 1800 666111

The Garda Confidential line allows people to call with information relating to matters of crime or other activities.

    Completely irresponsible behaviour.

Report him. We does like paying tax? We just have to do it. As for insurance.... that's just stupid. Report him and do all responsible motorists a favour.

As me_irl suggested, probably the best course of action would be to call the Garda Confidential Line.

No matter what you say to your friend, I don't think they will change their actions.

Agreed that they will not change there actions as they are fully in the belief that they are entitled to drive in this manner and is stopped its someone elses problem.

I wonder what the punishment would be if caught in terms on points, fine and or imprisonment, driving ban? - christ that would be enough to scare the crap out of most people.

cannot believe the selfishness of some folks.

But the reality of it is, this person doesnt actually care, cause even if they get caught, points ban etc, they will just do the same again i'm sure. Maybe imprisonment would scare them, but sure we know that wont happen with our legal system!

I got crashed in to by an uninsured driver, so it absolutely boils my blood!!!

No tax....meh, who cares. Insurance however is a different matter, as I was hit by an uninsured driver (only a tip but it turned into a right pain trying to get it sorted). Report him.

Nothing will ever change in Ireland until we have better detection. At present, the chances of getting caught are worth the risk to assholes like him

Everyone hates the insurance industry yet everyone gets so very riled up about people not supporting the insurance industry

Nothing to do with supporting the insurance industry I'd suggest.

People undertandably get annoyed with folk not doing what they're legally obliged to do.

No. If you ever are in a crash with an uninsured driver, I think you would chance your stance.

I don't support the insurance industry, I've even less support for free loaders who make me pay more for my insurance than I need to.

Insurance is it's own thing, someone's life could be ruined by a run in with an uninsured. It's more about the morality than the legality for me. Not bothered about tax.

It's not about supporting the industry.

We are paying for those joyriders ourselves...

An uninsured driver is more likely to do a hit and run and don't give to sh1ts about you your family or anyone else.

The way to look at it is would you want to be hit by one as another driver or a pedestrian. They honestly couldn't care if they don't bother with a licence insurance and nct.

Tax is a different matter and not a criminal offence but you never know the power that be may change that.

If anyone knows a person like that report don't hesitate.

We'll always pay for them one way or another, except with the insurance industry involved we're forced to pay them a healthy profit on top of it which ends up being repatriated to Switzerland, UK or some other one-way money blackhole never to see Ireland again
