New electric shower or keep old one?

We are renovating our bathroom. The shower we have there currently and is at least 7-8 years old but possibly there a lot longer. Its yellowing a little bit but works fine.

Im wondering should I put in a new one with the new bathroom as 1) it will look better and 2) It will be new so should last for a longer period of time. The one I am looking at is called Triton Collection II 9.5 kW Electric Shower - Gun Metal Effect and costs 190 euro delivered. The one I have currently is a T80i. I have also found the 8.5kw one for about 150 euro. Both are inclusive of delivery. The 9.5kw is from a website that would be easy to return. The second one is a well known DIY company but I would be ordering from their NI branch through parcel motel so could be a pain to return.

It states on the description that the product is not suitable for use outside the UK. Would Ireland be the same setup for showers as the UK?

    Any input welcomed.

If you go with any shower that is 9.5kw you will probly have to upgrade the cable to the shower to 10sq T&E more than likely you currently have 6sq
The shower would be suitable for use here

Your triton t80i is 15 to 20 years old and they haven't made parts for this for a few years now. It has outlived it's average life span. If it were me I'd change the shower now. The simplist replacement is a triton t80z 9kw. You should be OK with 6mm cable for this but your electrician will be able to advise you. I'm betting the trip switch on the fusebox needs updating

Cheers for the reply. Would the 8.5 KW shower fit there no problem? We are getting the walls replastered and everything so shouldnt be too much of an issue if it needs some re-wiring but if the 8.5 one doesnt need re-wiring would just go with that.

Cheers for the reply Sleeper. We actually got the kitchen rewired a year ago as it kept tripping. You are a life saver letting me know about the t80i. TBH I really like the look of the shower I mentioned. Its sleek and would look good in the new bathroom. As I said above we are re-plastering the walls so if the fit is different to the current one it should not matter right? If neccessary, would go with the one you recommended but would prefer the triton collection 2.

If you are getting a plasterer in then it's the perfect time to upgrade the cable if needed. With 10mm cable and the correct sized fuse/trip switch you can pick whatever mains fed shower you want.

Even with 10mm cable, the size of the shower may be limited by your transformer or existing house wiring. If your house is very old, you may want to get an electrician to have a gander before you purchase.

Think I might just go with the 8.5KW to be safe. Only .5 KW more. Shouldnt be a issue would it? We got the rest of the house redone that time we got the kitchen re-wired. Fully plastered and added somethings to the circuit box too to hold a bigger load I am pretty sure.

Is there much difference between a 8.5 and 9.6 kw shower? I presume the Triton 80i stands for 8kw? Lots of pressure to the shower as is and the boiler is in the kitchen so has instant hot water. Kitchen is adjacent to the bathroom.

Some people perceive a big difference between the 2. I am not a fan of being washed down the plughole with loads of water. It wastes water and electricity. Having said that, some people really like lots of water in the shower, so its a personal preference. As said, if you are having a re plaster done, I would upgrade the shower cable for future proofing, assuming the house can take the extra load. Give your previous electrician a call and ask him about it.

Cant contact the old electrician but will ask the new one to upgrade the cable to 10mm to future proof but will purchase the 8.5kw in the meantime just to be sure that it will be okay.

    Thanks again everyone!
