Three games have been picked at random and a vote will determine what will be played. The voting will end on the 15th of the month.

The list of games can be found here:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BXV4JxQ05pTB0mlvwpJJElcUThIYV7ZbVv9-4TrUxoY/edit

You can suggest games to be added to the list here:

The last game picked was Wonder Project J which is on going until the 15th which you can read about here:

If anyone is interested in doing the Wonder Project J podcast then PM and we can try and organise it.

    Toejam and Earl

    ToeJam_%26_Earl.png

    Developer: Sega

What is it?: A weird mix of action game and rogue-lite that was way ahead of it's time back in 1991. You won't play a game more 90's than this.

Available on: Megadrive, Steam, various download services and compilations.

    Pop'n Twinbee: Rainbow Bell Adventures

    43359_front.jpg

    Developer: Konami

What is it?: A platforming spin off of Konami's popular shmup series Twinbee. The gimmick is that the characters are equipped with rocket packs. Think Rocket Knight Adventures with more open levels. One of the few games to get a Japanese and European release but no US release. A real overlooked SNES classic.

    Available on: Super Nintendo

    Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB0F4Y0pNsg

I also found this piece of WTF: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXR_-mtuKw0

    Desert Strike

    Desert_Strike_-_Return_to_the_Gulf_Coverart.png

    Developer: Electronic Arts

What is it?: Classic isometric helicopter game. Unlike other action games at the time Desert Strike required careful planning and strategy to survive. Enemy 'danger zones' would have enemies do twice as much damage unless they are neutralised and limited fuel and ammo had to be managed. Balls hard but always satisfying once you figure out the levels. Multiple objectives that can be carried out in any order give the game a non linear sandbox feel.

Available on: Megadrive, Amiga, Super Nintendo (I'm only listing the 16 bit systems. Megadrive or Amiga are the superior versions)

    Gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt-yhuZn9yY

I rented desert strike half a dozen times as a kid. One of those games that was always satisfying and I returned to that well numerous times. Never did finish it though I don't think.

I liked all the strike games, which one was it where you got out of the helicopter and it went to first person mode and you were on one of those offshore oil rigs?

    :EDIT: It was urban strike

I remember it got me banned from renting videogames because my dad got addicted to it and was swearing like a sailor at it in front of me and my brother which my mother wasn't best pleased with :)

Disappointing to see pop 'n' twinbee trailing behind in votes, it's a really great, really japanese game full of clever ideas that I think influenced a lot of future games in terms of scoring systems and such

Desert strike for sure. Game is hard as nails tho. Fair play if you actually complete it.

    great game,

you can make things a bit easier for yourself if you rescue a captured co-pilot early on, Wild Bill I think his name was, he had top marks in guns and winch.

Difficulty was steep alright, and there was a fair old degree of memorization / time management needed to get all the objectives done without running out of fuel or ammo.

Zero interest in Desert Strike :o Simply never enjoyed it

I'd like to try Toe Jam & Earl. I never had a Megadrive growing up and frankly the game creeped me out but yet was highly revered. I might have to try it regardless.

Closing this. The winner is Desert Strike. I'll make another thread after work.
