When we bought our house a few years ago the attic had been converted to an excellent space. Problem is to access it there's a pull down stira & now we are thinking of making it a bedroom so we're hoping to have a stairs installed. Can anybody offer a ballpoint figure of how much a narrow stairs fitted would cost? TIA

Before you even consider a staircase I'd see how it has been converted. It would be odd to go to the trouble of converting an attic properly only to access it via a stira.

Are there any velux windows in it? A low lever one would be required for fire escape.

Is there any steel work in place?

If neither of the above are in place I wouldn't recommend using it as a bedroom and I would investigate further to see what has been done/removed up there.

A stair cost for an attic conversion is like the length of a piece of string depending on direction whether you loose part of s room or part of a wardrobe ect ect some including related works come in about 2k others 5k+
As per the posters above observations your findings would dictate whether it adds another bedroom to your house value wise or is still classed as a storage attic.
If you were to use it as a bed room I can't stress the importance of adhering to the fire regs and keep it as safe as possible for your family in the event of a fire.

As I know to my cost, where my stairs was originally going to go, there was a "valley" in the roof, where two slopes in the roof met. We eventually got it some other way fortunately.

The other thing I should mention is that we added our attic conversion after we had completely renovated the house, where we had insulated slab on the bedroom ceilings. Even though we had insulation between the attic joists, there's a wind tunnel coming up from the kitchen door, heated downstairs, then pushed up to the attic and out. We have those pine slats on the attic ceiling which we are going to have to remove to put up a plastic membrane, and completely seal the attic, plus put in an extraction fan. Just something to bear in mind...
