    ...and what do I do to stop 'em?

    Roses were blooming up until about 2 weeks ago, but an increasing number of leaves have turned brown & fallen off, after showing signs of being nibbled upon.

    That type of damage seems insignificant. Browning and dropping leaves is usually lack of water. Roses need to be kept moist and watering at the first sign of drought is actually often too late.
