Current legal state of prostitution in Ireland

Been reading John Halligan's recent interview and i was a bit confused by his comments on prostitution. My understanding was that it was legal except in the case of advertising it and brothels/pimps. I then saw references to the The Sexual Offences Bill of 2015 and I'm currently confused on the matter.

Can anyone clarify its current legal state?

A bill is not law until it is passed and become an Act so it may become the law.

Broadly. Illegal to advertise or solicit in public or to act as two or more person in a brothel to assist in the management of a brothel or to live off immoral earnings,

To the best of my knowledge it is what the law calls it.

Some activities associated with prostitution are outlawed, however, as public order offences. These include curb-crawling, soliciting in public, loitering in public places, brothel-keeping and living off immoral earnings.

Actually the law now calls it "Living on earnings of prostitution"

They aren't "public order offences", though, they're sexual offences. It's the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act they're outlawed under.

You are correct, but the error was "turn off the red lights" web site not mine.

The law is an ass on this one.

That would really depend on your particular opinion. One could equally argue that legislating 'around' this one is the ideal middle ground given the two opposing social policies a la Germany - making it an industry - or Sweden - making it totally illegal for the client - with some very dubious lobby groups thrown in for good measure.

Note that bills become acts when they are passed.
