Recently bought one of these from the Uk with a full service check. To protect myself among others i cant go into much more detail on how or who bought it for me.

The car is in great order except for an oil issue on the top of the engine and a weird noise/rattle from the engine which we originally thought was timing chain but a good friend (mechanic) seems to think not.
He isn't sure as he just had a quick look so we are now waiting to get a Peugeot mechanic to look at it properly next week.

Anyone had issues similar or experience of said vehicle? Mileage is 85,000 miles

There are only 4 petrol 3008s for sale on carzone and only one of them is the 1.6 litre. Unfortunately I'd say your chances of finding someone else on boards with one will be very slim.

Google 1.6 THP chain problem... I think that will answer your question...

Assuming it's the turbo 1.6 - could also be normal direct injection (pretty diesely) noise on these engines, or valves could be getting coked up (yay direct injection!)

Replace the chain then? Not the most mechanical minded lad so was hoping to get a guideline fron here before a qualified guy sees it.

Hope it is this simple tbh! Yes it is the turbo 1.6.

"normal" direct injection noise on these. Horrific.

They are infamous for poor engineering on the timing chain + tensioner though as grogi alluded to.

God, that is nearly the exaxt same noise.

So this is "normal" and there may not be the major issues we were expecting.

The chain etc may still need some sort if maintenance work still?

They say the parts used since 2011 are much better and the chain is not prone to stretching anymore. But it is the same story as with the BMW N47 (incidentally those Prince engines are used in BMW cars too - and are called N13, N14, N16 and N18) - it probably will never be fixed completely...

Just make sure you always use genuine oil filter from Citroen/Peugeot. The aftermarket are believed to cause lower oil flow/pressure - which makes the issue appear faster.

You may just need tensioner done at some stage??
I dunno. I'm vaguely aware of that engine from the MINI side, but zero knowledge of the Peugeot variations.
I'd take it to a specialist maybe just to confirm any engine noises are normal - between normal noise, chain rattle, coked valves there is potential for either constant stress over normal noises, or ignoring the warning signs of something very nasty.

Thanks for this, starting to get a better idea of whats ahead now. Good point on the genuine filters as we had already decided that when it ia sorted to service via Peugeot dealer.

Also never wait more than 15 000 kms between oil changes.

Thanks to all for the help here.

15k oil changes and genuine filters each time is very useful info.

Hopefully I'm not looking at a new timing chain etc.
