My OH drives a Peugeot 207 HDI 1.4 Litre Diesel. He noticed when he starts his car that a message comes up "anti pollution failure", and there's also a warning light highlighted on the revs gauge.

Does anyone have any idea what these are?

When the oil is low, it usually says specifically to check oil on the radio display. besides, he only topped it up with motor shop bought oil.

    Thanks, everyone.

DPF filter, usually as a result of a diesel car being driven in the town on small runs.

How much might it cost to replace? He doesn't want to ignore it or skimp on it cost wise.

DPF filter, usually as a result of a diesel car being driven in the town on small runs.

He used to drive 93 km each way to work, 83 km of which was on motorway at 120 km/h, he commutes 25 km to work each way now with 5km of motorway.

What year is the car and is it used for constant short stop/start driving?

"Anti Pollution Filter" can be a generic warning on a Peug and not necessarily a DPF issue. You would need to get the fault code read by a garage with diagnostic equipment to tell you what the issue might be.

It might not cost a lot. He should take the car out for a good run on a road that he can drive freely at a speed greater tha 60kph. A good hour's driving could help clear that filter.

On the other hand, it may already be too late and the filter is clogged up. If the car is an older one, his trusty local mechanic may be able to solve the problem cheaper than a Peugeot main garage. He could be down a couple of hundred euros in any case.

Do a search on this forum for DPF problems.

It's an 08 D with regular servicing. A certain seaside town in North County Dublin to Baldoyle is his current commute.

His commute up until a few months ago, used to be 10km of back roads and 83 of motorway.

Might not even have a DPF fitted.

My 407 had this pop up a few times, drove it for about half an hour, 4th gear 120kmph, clears itself after restarting car a few hours later.
    Worth a try...

If that doesn't work you need a diagnostic done. Ignore some of the replies on here.

Go to a mechanic. Get codes read.

Had similar message on petrol Citroen. Was a dead lambda sensor. You need to get codes read.

Had the same message on a diesel 406, the problem was the air flow sensor. As others have said, you need to get codes read.
