Sky Viewing Card - Purchase

    Hi all,

Long story short, we very briefly had Sky years ago and as a result have a Sky box set up that allows us to receive the UK freesat channels (BBC One, Two, Channel 4, E4, some free music channels etc). However, we don't actually have a Sky viewing card, which I only realised a couple of weeks ago. I was astonished that we are picking up those free channels without a card. Anyway.

We are Eir customers, so in order to avail of the free BT Sports we need an active Sky viewing card number for them to switch those channels on on our box. However, due to having no viewing card as mentioned above, we're goosed.

I've spoke to Sky who don't want to know unless we purchase a package and Eir have told us it is Sky we need to deal with (both fair enough), so I'm wondering is it possible for me to (legally) purchase a viewing card somewhere and for me to pair it to the box myself? If I could do this, I'd have a viewing card number to produce to Eir and would get those channels.

    Thanks all. :)

Its not legally possible to purchase a viewing card as anyone offering one for sale is not legally entitled to do so.

Up until recently the former Setanta Sports were in a position to issue a card to those who didn't have one. I now gather, from discussions elsewhere on Boards, that Eir Sport are now unable to do so, but that appears to be a recent change.

Contact eir sport directly. I rang them on Tuesday and received my new card by post today. Its a red sky card.

I read (from a link provided on Boards) what I think was Eir's T&Cs which clearly stated they would provide a suitable card to their customers, much as Setanta did.
    So this

would seem to be the correct way to do things.
