Hi all , was wondering if anyone has a solution to this problem , the car locks from the fobs & boot release works but all 4 doors remain locked after pressing the open button on fob , have to open drivers door with the key & manually open the other 3 from inside car , I've replaced fob battery , courtesy lights are working fine , toyota mechanic said next on list is main battery replacement which seems ok , could it be a fuse , loom , solenoid or something else . Any help would be appreciated as I've a feeling the toyota service dealers are gonna be very expensive .

Has the micro switch under the open button on your fob come off the circuit board?

Thanks for the reply I' ll have a look later as mrs is our in the car at the minute but neither of the 2 fobs will open it , it seems like fobs work as the car makes the open click sound when fob is pressed but the doors remain locked .

Tried the fob fix but unfortunately no joy .

I would expect all the doors to open when you open the drivers door with the key. The fact you have to open the remainder from the inside indicates an issue with your central locking system, not the fobs.

Also the fact you can hear the "open click" sound as you call it, indicates the fob is communicating with the car and probably energizing the door unlock solenoids.

    Fuse, I doubt it
    Loom, possible

Can you hear that click at every door when pressing the unlock button? Get close and listen

Hi I have a 2nd avensis & the sound is a lot louder on the good 1 on lock / unlock rather than the 1 that's not working , I listened to the faulty 1 & the 4 doors make a much quieter sound than 1st car .

Hi yes it locks fine with both the fobs including boot release but doors remain locked on pressing of key & everything else works ok .

This is for the earlier version avensis. I doubt it'll work as it's to do with the programming of the key and I suspect your problem is to do with the mechanism on the car side but sure give it a try and see:

    Sit in drivers seat
    1. Open drivers side door without the key in the ignition
    2. Put key in ignition - turn from off to on, wait 10 sec
    3. Push lock or unlock button twice, you should hear the sound of the lock mechanism.

Had same issue with a 2011 reg which went on for weeks. Problem miraculously went away itself after a few months and is working fine for the last few months.

Here's hoping I have the same luck as you but I doubt it will cure itself & mrs wants it sorted ASAP as manual opening is doing her head in

Might sound silly but humour me..make sure all doors are closed 100% including the boot. Close each door hard..

With the key in the ignition, set to "on" do the doors unlock with the central locking button inside the door?

I'll give it a try in a while as not near the car at the minute but I do know that the lock / unlock switch on the drivers door will lock all the doors but won't unlock them

I have the exact same issue as the OP on an 08 Avensis. Your steps work for me.

It is a really irritating issue, especially when it's lashing rain and you're trying to get a baby into a car seat and shopping into the boot.

I had the car in for service a few months ago in a Toyota garage, and they couldn't get to the bottom of it. Not sure how hard they tried though.

Hi I tried the unlock button from inside the car with key in on position , it locks doors but won't unlock .

That sounds like a stiff/lazy drivers door actuator ? Have you tried removing the door cover & when you press 'open' on the fob try assist the lever on the door actuator with your finger ? Just think the drivers door is the master actuator & it opens first which triggers the remainder to open ? I could be wrong though....

I haven't moved the door card yet as was hoping I could have sorted it without surgery but I'll try the handle at the weekend with fob press as away on hols at the minute but fingers crossed that it sorts it . Cheers

OK, it's good you have a second Avensis as you can make a comparison:)
I will assume they are of a similar model/vintage.

Let's call the car with the door lock issue, Avensis 1

What happens when you complete the following:

    Open drivers door with key

    Avensis 1:
    Avensis 2:

    Close drivers Door with Key

    Avensis 1
    Avensis 2

    Open passenger Door with key

    Avensis 1:
    Avensis 2:

    Close passenger Door with key

    Avensis 1:
    Avensis 2:

    Open boot with key

    Avensis 1:
    Avensis 2:

    Close boot with key

    Avensis 1:
    Avensis 2:

    Hi i tried as above
no 1 with key just opens drivers door & horn alarm goes off
No 2 with key opens all doors & horn alarm goes off

I couldn't go any further with the sequence as passenger & boot doors are keyless but the battery was dead after only 5 days away so I'm gonna get it tested tomorrow but doubt it's the cause of central locking problem

The alarm/horn going off is normal as the alarm is set.

The fact you cant open the passenger/boot doors, 100% rules out the fob.

I'ld say you have a defective drivers door lock module or a wiring issue at the driver door. Most cars suffer broken wires at the door opening pivot point, behind the rubber grommet. Pull back grommet and inspect for wire damage.

After that you need to pull off the door card and test the door lock module.

Start by mechanically decoupling door linkage from door lock module and check to see if the solenoid is opening/closing. - take it from there really..

I have seen a good few of these, you have an internal open circuit in either the passenger Junction box (fuse box) or the drivers one, the defective one will need to be replaced. The signal coming from both needs to be tested to identify fault, not really a DIY.

Thanks for the diagnosis & doesn't sound like a DIY job to me either tbh & would that be a main dealer job or do you nixers Padraic ?

I had the car with a auto sparks & he tested the car & couldn't find a problem with the electrics & a week ago it started working intermittently on its own & is now working 100% so their has to be an underlying issue with the avensis model central locking .

Hi have same issue now with my 2010 avensis and just wondered if yours is still working or what was the issue

Sorry for raising an old thread but same is happening with my 2012 Avensis. Some mornings the doors won't open with the remote, interior lights come on, indicators flash & boot door(estate) unlocks but the 4 car doors don't open. Need to enter with the little key in the fob & open each door manually from inside. Switch on the drivers door to open all doesn't work but will work later in the day. Sounds like it going to unlock but never does. Then after driving about 15 mins to work, everything work as it should. Locks & unlocks. Think it may only happen when deadlocks are on. New batteries in both fobs & car battery if fairly new. Any ideas?. Issue is fairly intermittant as it may only happen one morning per week.
