So we were out car shopping for the missus. She's after an Arbath 500. We found one she really wanted at a dealer. I thought it was overpriced at £8,250.

After some chat with the sales manager we offered £7,250 which he rejected. Then we went up to £7,500 and he said no. So we walked away and told him we'd think about it.

Phoned the next day and asked to meet in the middle £7,750 and he said no. Again I said ok thanks anyway.

A few weeks later car is still for sale after two reductions, to £8,000 and now at £7,600. Do I go back and get it or not give him my hard earned?

go back with your initial €7250. He must be a poor salesman not to phone you back and accept your €7750!

It is business, no feelings allowed.

Who cares!? If you get the car you want at the price you are willing to pay then **** the principle.

A good deal will be struck when both sides are equally dissatisfied.

    Its business!
Go in and put the cash on the table, final offer, but be sensible.
Otherwise someone else gets it and you have to start all over again.

It may be the principle but tbh at the end of the day it is business.

    I'd go back anyway.

Mistake 1/. you called him too often initially.

I'd offer £7000 now. Tell him it's available today but not tomorrow and that if he doesn't accept you're going to buy elsewhere.

    And stop calling him afterwards...
