Redndering Windows (top in particular)

My husband is not a tradesman but is very handy at the DIY. He is working on our house and is now trying to do around the outside windows. We had them replaced about a year ago and the render was never done. He is now tackling the job with no success.

I am not sure what mix he is using but it won't stick to the top of the window and is not very good around the edges. He says he is using the right quantities, etc.

any advice please would be great.

Render shouldn't be sticking to any part of the window. Use a stop-bead and render up to that.

I suspect by "top of window" the OP means the reveal.

Sorry - can't be of any help OP. The only time I tried my hand at rendering it was like an episode of Mr Bean!

the reveal could be an exposed steel beam, like I have on my gaff.

Without seeing the reveals its tough to advise.
However, post the "right" quantities mix....

Ps I am also very handy at the DIY but I know my limitations and skimming/plastering is something I wont ever attempt.
    As for rendering
