Driving offences.

Over 2 months ago I was stopped in my sisters garden after just getting out of the car, I was asked for my license, insurance, NCT but I had none (yes I know it was wrong). The garda took my details and said "just don't do it again. 5 minutes later he arrives demanding that I sign a statement detailing the offences under the threat of arrest, I obliged as I didn't fancy time in the cells. Now over 2 months later he knocks on my door telling me that he has to charge me, I tell him that I just can't go right now and he said that he will call back. This all seems fishy to me. Any advice (other than don't break the law) would be great. Thanks in advance

I should probably also point out that the fine I received for the NCT is for a road I was on but not my sisters road where I was stopped. If that makes a difference.

Are you saying you had no licence or insurance either?

The car was only taxed, I was getting a quote on repairs before buying it and stupidly drove down and back.

What is he charging you with? Why not just sent out summons instead of bringing you in for charge all sounds a little funny.

getting a solicitor is step number 1 now . Where you actually driving at the time or just parked up . The thing you signed was basically an admission of guilt . Did ya read through before signing it or get a copy ?

All most common steps to be taken

I was caught and hold my hands up, I just don't see why he has to charge me after I received a fine for no NCT and over two months later. I wasn't driving at the time I had my hand on the front door and he called me back. I did see him though when I passed him.

I assume for all the above offences.

I thought you admitted you had no insurance! You get that is a serious matter leading to a ban and fpn can not deal with that. But in such a case as this I would think it would be a summons not an arrest leading to charge.

    Yeah and no NCT

You know the possible penalties for driving with no insurance include bans and even prison?

    Get a solicitor asap

Guards arnt clowns now :D theyl check to see if tyres/engine are warm if they suspect/seen you been driving . Id get a pretty good solicitor if was you , is it your first offence etc ? if so you'l more than likely get put off the road for awhile (cant say how long) and a fine . have you ever held a license before ?

I was in the wrong and admitted to every thing, I just don't see a reason to charge me two months later. Would he have messed something up?
