I know this is a football topic, but you have to say well done for their demolition of BATE last night and doing so well in the Champions League. I know it is only a sport but it'll mean a lot to a town like Dundalk which has only gotten bad press over the decades. From GAA to pop music I have seen how local sucesses can really lift a town like this up. In many ways it is just as important as economic success. Also the endless slagging that LoI fans get from barrstoolers and 'the greatest supporters in the world' might stop now.

Sport or not, good to see something Irish and homegrown do well on the world stage.

The RTE news at one played the Louth FM commentary for the third goal - brilliant stuff! :D

Brilliant from Dundalk, one of the biggest wins in the history of Irish football, a huge financial boost to them and a credit to the League of Ireland.

Well done from an Athlone fan.

I was going to put this in the Trivial Things that Make you happy put sure I might as well plonk it here - the Dundalk accent: it's fierce wild. There was a guy with Seán O'Rourke today and byjesus that was wild.

There was an even wilder accent in the match commentary clip from Dundalk FM played on the News at One:

Have a listen to this. They were some fairies he was away with!

It's about time Dundalk got the respect it pretends to deserve

We should probably call it by its real name " El Paso" just for any European commentators for the next match.

I'd say Pighead won't be sober this side of Christmas!

Great achievement by them......and maybe it's gonna get better!

It's an achievement comparable with a Barcelona winning it for the size of the club's. I hope they do oriel Park up.

fu(k the begrudgers, it's a great success story...don't really care that much about soccer or know that much about Dundalk, but am thrilled for their success.....may they enjoy the build up to and actual reality of playing in europe.
Stories like this have an infectious ability to spread love and joy into communities..

    It's a bit obvious.

Knowing nothing about soccer, I genuinely thought the team was just called Borisov and the headlines were informally referring to how Dundalk 'bate' them 3-0.

    Is it not pronounced Batay?

A great achievement and thanks to Eir Sport for the coverage. I could have stayed at home to watch it last night as I couldn't get to Tallaght, so I went to my local. I fancied a few pints and Dundalks chances after last weeks match. While the game was great, what was better was the EPL supporters running for cover after full time. All they did was rubbish Dundalks chances throughout the entire game. I'm near certain one of them pissed all over his jeans when I mentioned the result in the jacks, in his rush to get away.

Cheers OP for the thread. I don't have access to the Soccer forum, so glad its mentioned here.

    Thread Closed.
There is a soccer forum for all soccer talk, we normally open up a sport thread here for an event like the Euro's or Olympics.
