Driving test date waiting times?

I am still waiting for my driver test date. It's been over 10 weeks since initial booking, so I have emailed the RSA folks and they just sent me back an email stating that I should wait longer and that the average waiting time is 10 weeks.

Should I continue waiting or is there someone/somewhere who can resolve my issue and supply me with a test date as I've been waiting for over two months now for a driving test date for category B.

I applied at the end of March for Tallaght and my test was 11 weeks and 2 days after applying. I got the mail notifying me of the date about 3 weeks before the test date

Assuming that this is your first test, have you checked that all 12 lessons are marked as complete on www.rsa.ie ?

Cheers for that, I didn't know that I could check the EDT on their website. I just did it there and yes all 12 lessons are ticked off so I am in the system. I am also doing it in Tallaght. Looks like I'll just have to wait it out, could it be due to me not finishing my six month waiting trial before booking my test? I've only a week left, but I was told to book it anyway since the waiting times are so long. I just hope that I will get it next week eventually and that they are not just holding me up due to me not finishing up on those six months.

If you want to do it soon just ring up and see if there is any cancellations.. That's how I did it but asked for one a month away so I could book my instructors car.. It's be worth a shot if you are eager to do it

I've just booked online there now myself and picked a date within the next 5 weeks. Did you not have the option to do that OP?

No, what happened to me was I registered my details in to the website and then payed the fee for the test. That was that, I got an email a few minutes later then that I would be notified of my test date up to four weeks before my test date.

I don't know what to do, like the other poster said, she had to wait 11 weeks and 2 days. I guess I'll give it another week and then I'll try to ring their helpline, which you only get when you email them about your problem. They just send you back an automated message that generally it's a 10 weeks waiting period and if you want to cancel or change your test date you can ring their number, which is useless. I just wish it was an actual person writing back to solve my trouble instead of getting an automated reply that they send out to everyone who emails them.

I thought you couldn't even book a test until the 6 months were up? I haven't had my permit for 2 months yet but was assuming I'd have to wait until early December to book. And then, as the waiting list is 13 weeks long, wait until March/April for a test date unless I could get a cancellation.

No you can still book it no matter whether or not your 6 months are up. Apparently you pick and choose your dates so you can cancel off anything until December, but unlike me I never got such an option. It's a mixed bag of people who get to choose their dates and those who don't, if I were you I would book it a month before your 6 months are up to get in there into the waiting list if you don't get the option to choose your dates. I don't know why it is the way it is hence why I am asking here if anybody could tell me why the application process is the way it is...

I couldn't choose my dates either, went through the calendars after paying and all dates are unavailable up until 2018 and i gave up then. I just clicked the option for the system to automatically pick a date for me, god knows when that will be..

Again, you had the chance to pick your dates. I didn't have such a thing at all lol. I just got an email after I paid my fee, nothing after that... no calendar or option to let me choose the date. Anyway, I'm giving them the 11 weeks and that's it. I'll be ringing them asking them what the story is. If there is no place till 2018, like you say, well then me and you are screwed... I'll keep this thread updated, will give them a ring next week and see what they say, since then it will be over the regular waiting period for a test date. It's ridiculous, I had been digging up old threads from boards which date back to 2007/2010 and it looks like people didn't have it easy even back then. Someone had to wait 6 months to do their test in Dublin, I really hope that it doesn't come to that for me.... :(

I applied for my test in Gorey about 6 weeks ago and I got my notification of my test yesterday for mid sept.
There was no option for me to pick a date but rather days of the week that don't suit to be flagged.

Yeah you still had the same option as other people, I never got an option to flag my dates. I eventually rang them today and they told me that "hopefully" I will receive it in September. I just hope that I won't have to ring them in October to ask them why it hasn't come through the email...

Lady over the phone told me that the waiting period for Tallaght is 13 weeks...

It depends on the test centre. I applied for my test last October and had the choice of about three dates. However all these dates were for the week after and didn't suit me with work. In the end I got my date via email in December and my test was at the end of January. So long enough waiting alright. However most of my friends would have done their tests a good few years ago when 6-7 month waits were normal!

If you ring that number you can see if any cancellations are available.

Yeah, the girl on the phone told me that I can ring back for cancellations. Think I will only do that if I don't receive it in September. After all that waiting, I'm not bothered anymore to be honest. Stressed enough about the waiting times for the past two months, so I'll just leave all the ringing for cancellations till september.

Just to weigh in on this, I have had the same problem.

For driving test no.1 I went to book and was able to use a really great online system with calendars and available dates marked off. Even though the date suitable (at the time) was well off, you could chose from what which was available. It was a really good system.

Just through pressures of life etc, I had to cancel and cancel again with the upshot being I needed to apply again (afresh).

This time, the system was completely different. It just took the application and said something like "we will be in touch" - i.e. no calendar no nothing, no option to flag your dates at all.

I can only assume that if there vacancies within, say, a three month period or so, you get to use the calendar online and choose. If there are no vacancies (currently a 17 week wait where I want to go) you don't get to use the calendar as it doesn't reach that far.

That's all I can assume. The RSA were nice, but didn't really (a) understand the query or (b) have any answers as to why some applications online are met with the calendar and choices for dates and some are not.

I went on the cancellation list and rang RSA every couple of weeks I had a test today and passed thank God.

    Are tests done on Saturday?

If you can be flexible about taking the test on short notice, then ring the RSA on a regular basis (weekly or even daily) to see if there are any cancellation slots available. You might get lucky and get a slot, though it could end up being for tomorrow or for over a month from now if you do land one. Still might get you in quicker than just waiting, though.

I've seen people mention that there is an option to pick a date online when applying. But like Brian and a few others, I didn't have that option when I applied.
Can you ring the RSA and request a specific date? Has anyone done this?
I've applied already online, leaving it up to chance- but could I phone up and request a date, so I'd be prepared and able to get the time off work, book extra lessons etc...?

Just wondering if anyone's done this or if it's not something that they allow! I can ring them next week and suss it out anyway, but I'm guessing it's not feasible!
