Quantity Surveyor - When?

We have recently submitted planning application - design & application completed by an architect.
We would like to get a fairly accurate costing on the build...it was designed using ballpark numbers...

    1. Can a QS work with planning drawings, or do they require full construction drawings?
It is likely we will not proceed with construction drawings until planning has been granted...but I guess this is what they need...

    2. Any ideas on cost of a QS

    3. Is it worth getting a QS involved - unsure if build will be self/contract...

    Many thanks

For Budgetary use 3% of the cost of the house for the QS, at least that what's my architect recommended. I'm not sure on value either but I hope it will be factory built which locks in some of the cost but 1st/2nd fix is still variable....depends how much certainty you need and if you can build in 10% or more contingency or not
