Local Cabinet upgraded but same speed - help

    Hi,

Recently our local cabinet FB01_E01 was upgraded to fibre (July 20th). I contacted my provider
and am eligible to switch to fibre. However am told my new speed will be 7Mb. I currently get
7Mb. I was expecting faster speeds with fibre enabled. Why would it be the same speed ?
Is there anyway to to increase it and also is it likely it would provide better performance ?

    Thanks for all/any help

    f0z

    thanks degsie

is there a way to find out specific distance to cabinet. by road I am about 1.5km so think I should be getting faster speeds based on your link.

There are online calculators which determine distance based on downstream attenuation which you can get from your router admin page.

I currently get 15Mb but would get 12 if I "upgraded" to fibre. If you tell us your downstream attenuation we can tell you how much cable is between you and the cabinet.

If you're connected to an exchange (and FB01_E01 would be an exchange), then the maximum range is 1.5KM, so you are probably on the limit.

MMFITWGDV is correct, sounds like its an unvectored exchange that only reaches out to 1500m so you'll barely sync.

    - Stay on what you're on
    - Wait
    - You neighbours closer to the exchange will upgrade and your quality of service should improve a bit.

    Good news:
It may go up to 12Mb within a few months
You'll be eligible for the NBP between 2018 and 2022.

According to this calculator you are approx 1593m from cab
    http://www.speedguide.net/dsl_speed_calc.php

but bear in mind this is not gospel
in my own example downstream att of 11.6 I should only get 46mb on vdsl
but im getting 75 in reality
