Streaking!

    Hi Folks,

just wondering what your thoughts are on running streaks?

On my last marathon cycle I followed a 6 day a week plan, but discovered that instead of having a complete rest day on Mon, if I did an active recovery day with a few very slow miles (with a heart rate monitor keeping me in recovery zone), I felt better for it and ready for training on tues, rather than being very stiff on Tues if I'd taken a complete rest day.

I ended up running 100 consecutive days and took one rest day right before the marathon to intentionally break the streak before the marathon, as I didnt want any thoughts lingering in the back of my mind on race day that I needed to hold back something so I could run again the next day.

After that marathon, last Autumn, I took a short break and slowly built up the running days to 7 again...today was day 262 of my new streak.

I be interested to hear what people think???

    Thanks

Once you are enjoying it, not injured and it's doing more benefit than harm then why not.

    Hi BeepBeep67,

thanks for your reply. I agree.

On the injury reference, I'd say I've had less injuries/niggles since I moved to more running days.

    272 days...you have 10 days on me!
419 runs, are you doing a lot of doubles?

Anyone out there with more than 272 days??

I'm at 364 days in a row as of this evening. Going to wait to take a break until I hit 366 on friday due to it being a leap year.

I didn't really set out to run every day for a year but as the months went by it has been quite doable so I've just kept it up. A couple of days here and there where it was a struggle due to having a bit of a cold/hangover/lack of sleep but not very many over the year.

Just read this fascinating article about a guy called Ken Young http://www.runnersworld.com/runners-stories/the-endless-toil-of-the-big-data-guy?cid=soc_Runner%27s%20World%20-%20RunnersWorld_FBPAGE_Runner%E2%80%99s%20World__Motivation

    His streak caught my attention
"In 1971, he began a daily running streak of at least one mile a day (it lasted 15,179 days, or 41 years and 204 days)"
