Hi all, hope this is in the right place if not please remove, I have a relative travelling from Spain to Ireland on the 16th August, she emailed me today saying she is trying to checkin on line with her national identity card which aer lingus do except but she seems to be having problems with it, I have rang aer lingus for her as they do not have a number within Spain, didn't give me much info only to say they they do except national identity card, i have looked up website and you can check in up to 30 hours before hand, would she be checking in too early, im sure there has to be a fuction button, but she said when she tried with card it isn't enough, thanking you for any replies

Surely she is trying to check in way too early since she is trying to check in 2 weeks in advance instead of 30 hours

If you have pre-selected seats you can check-in from 30 days before your flight on most European routes. Otherwise it's 30 hours before.

OP, this has nothing to do with her identity card. She is trying to check-in too early unless she has paid for seat selection. If she doesn't want to pay for seat selection then she needs to wait until 30 hours before the flight when she can check-in, select a seat and download her boarding card with no additional charge.

Aer Lingus sends you out an e-mail well before your flight date encouraging you to select your seat and a lot of people think that this is a mandatory check-in procedure that you must follow there and then so they get stung with the charge for seat selection but what the e-mail fails to tell you is that you can ignore it, wait until the day before the flight and do it all for free.
