    Hi,
A friend of mine needs a solicitor to begin legal seperation proceedings, is it normal for a solicitor to charge €100 cash for the inital consultation? And is it also normal for the solicitor to ask for ID and utility bill as proof of identification ?

Is is normal to pay for a meal when you eat in a Restaraunt? Family law is expensive and it's very normal to charge for a consultation expect billing anywhere from €100 to €500 per hour plus VAT.

Yes under anti money laundering legislation a solicitor will require proof of address and or passport.
