Average cost of home port install

    Hi all,
    Am importing leaf so don't qualify for grant and install. Can anyone tell me the cost of a Straightforward port install for car in drive. Also if possible can someone PM me decent contacts for installers.

    Cant help on the cost of install as I did most of the work myself with a relative who is a RECI doing the final connections. I bought the charger unit in the UK and had it delivered to the garage from which I bought the car. At the time it was about €150 cheaper than buying it here.

    I bought a 32A Rolec type 2, to allow for future upgrades, even though both our current leafs are fine with 16A. It was pretty much the dame price and when I upgrade to a leaf with a 6.6kw charger I'm already set up.

    Two options...

    1) Get an installer to do the lot. Quotes in excess of €1k to provide and install a charger are what I got earlier this year.
    2) Source the equipment yourself (easy enough to do once you know what you are looking for) and get your local electrician to install it. That will cost about half the price.

    I went with option 2.
    I bought a Rolec 32A unit and put in 10sqmm cable. Get the 32A charger to future proof it.

    Is there such a thing as a tethered home charger that can change between 16a and 32a (if I decide to upgrade in the future)

    Also can somebody PM me any decent approved electricians that did an EV install for you when you sourced the parts yourself the same as @Kcross above. Am in South Dublin.

    Just buy the 32A one, a 3.3kw leaf will only pull 16A
    i.e. The 32A charger will deliver whatever the car asks for, so getting the 32A will future proof it for you.

    Any electrician can do this for you. Just tell them you want to install a 30amp outdoor (if it's actually outdoor) socket. It's effectively the very same job. Go for untethered - and that way, if you upgrade, you're future proofed.

    Spark cost me €200 for simple enough installation (cable across the garage-room attic from fuse board to corner of the house about 3m.).

    Got a tethered charge with the car- very handy for just plugging in on a cold evening.

    Yeah made up the cable , so going to convert mY ABL to tethered. ( it has the gland opening for it ) The ABL units have a side mounted type 2 socket and swmbo has scrapped her knuckles on the pebble dash, so it has to changed !!

    My electrician charged me €160. He provided 30m's of 10sqmm cable and some metal ducting for outside. I provided everything else.

    The cable would have been €50+ plus the ducting so I reckon less than €100 for labour. It wasnt a simple run... had to cross the house twice between upstairs joists, so we had to rod it, and drill a hole to outside, mount the ducting and then wire it up..... I thought it was a fair price for the time he spent onsite.

    Just be aware, from a legal perspective the only requirement for the RECI sparks is to install a 32A feed from the distribution board. That could simply be to a nearby 32A capable connector. From then on you can install the rest yourself, ( if you are capable and want to, its typically involves as bout as much electrical work as a 13A plug )
