There is a builders providers near me that will make them up to order.

    1. I want to replace an old gate which is 80cm wide but can I be sure that, that is what I will get.

    2. Planing to size after I get it is no good as that would remove any pressure treatment.

    3. Should I err on slightly smaller size of say 79cm to be sure it will fit, can always add a batten to the closing side of gate post if there is any gap.

Is this the best way to go, cheers for any advice. oap

Correct pressure treatment should go all the way into the wood so shouldn't be an issue if you plane it to size.

Some places offer pressure treatment as a service, one of the guys in Heiton buckleys was telling another customer they offer if, so you should be able to purchase the gate there and get it pressure treated.

OP: important to clarify if the gate is PT'd after timber cutting and assembly, if not then the end grain is usually suspect as the PT does not go 100% through.

Longitudinal surfaces are fine as per DD but the soft centre in the end grain don't get done. 100%

Hi guys, I'm not too fussy at this stage of the quality of the pressure treatment
http://mccarthystramore.ie/product/timber-side-gates/ does €99 sound too cheap for a made to order PT door.
