€8/10 euro down south for good barley straw rounds.

Probably get them for €9 or €10 down south...if you can sell them for £16 up the north (€20) would be hard to see you losing on that.

Ah settle Mahoney, at that money you're getting free P&K.

There's some robbing hoares charging over €20 for an auld holstein bull calf...:)

This is the true cost of conacre. If tillage guys had good long term leases in place straw would get a lot dearer very quickly. Straw takes off over €60 of p and k.

Thanks for this!, would it pay to get a lorry load from wexford or somewhere? say 50 or 100.
Bit of a gamble if we have a very short winter and dry spring. Few years back, someone was selling them at 10 sterling and we thought they were as cheap as chips, men buying them and selling for 20 over the winter!!:)

Nail on head. I estimate straw bought in brings c.€6 per round bale on to my farm. Load with cow muck and spread back out, very valuable Fert. Fantastic to maintain om in soil.

Edit: I increased Sr. On farm and took no big cut silage off it. All dry cow silage i.e.bulk was bought on the shank. Guys think they're making a killing when in fact I'm mining out P&k from them.

    Quite.

Try buying straw from the Amish, you'll be waiting a long time.
