Sounds dreadful already. What does she know about music??

Also, it has been a while since Radio Ireland/Today FM named a show after an album or song, such as:

    Last Splash (Alison Curtis)
    Pet Sounds (Tom Dunne)
Here comes the night (Donal Dineen)
    Sunday Shining (Mark Cagney)
    The Small Hours (Donal Dineen)
Songs in the key of life (some female presenter)

Yay more Adele, Beyoncé, Kodaline and Ed Sheeran - how alternative of her

I think its a bit harsh to say what does she know about music , I'm sure she didn't have full control of the music in her 2-4:30 slot plus I've seen a few people on here say they thought she played good music .

Don't judge the poor girl yet .

Agreed, couldn't they put Paul McCloone show on earlier or something, she's claimed its going to be more of an alternative music show ...bet it will be only Ed Sheeran, Adele, Taylor Swift and the like

the internet is a blessing for wanna be music heads like LD.

someone who came from aa roadwatch only in 2014, never worked her way up through pirate or community radio or DJ'd in clubs from an early age should really not be presenting a specialist/indie music show on national radio.

So because she didn't pay her dues and was a traffic girl means she cannot possibly have a good taste in music?

Fair play for coming to that conclusion.

On her afternoon show she tended to play some pretty decent tracks from time to time which were not the pre decided tracks which every DJ has to play.

She did that for the first few weeks of the show, then it was mostly the same songs. She beat to death that Brian Deady song, didn't she play it twice on the same show.

People seem to have some very definitive opinions of a show they haven't even heard yet...

Tell us the secrets of the future you time-travelling wonders of the universe!

It may well be utter sh*te, but to write it off without giving it a chance just because she hasn't done club DJing or whatever seems very harsh. But then, I've come expect this snobbish attitude from music heads...

Her music choices on afternoons are irrelevant. Different show, different timeslot, different target audience, probably different restrictions/freedoms in terms playlisting.

So essentially, calm it. At least listen to the show before saying she knows nothing about music.

Well said! She seems to have a genuine love for music and has played the odd gem on the afternoon show despite being restricted to the playlist for the most part so I'll give it a chance without casting ridiculous judgements on it before it even starts...

I tuned in to Today FM just after 9 tonight and Paul McLoone was thanking Ed Smyth for his show and said he would be back again for the rest of the week. Was Louise not on yet or did Paul get caught out there?

Songs in the Key of Life is presented by Nadine O'Regan. This only came to Today FM in July as part of its weekend shakeup, having previously been on TX FM.

no Ed is on for the week for Muirreann, whose covering Dermot and Dave...Shes taking another week off I believe due to her website...I think someone mentioned it...Half listening due to work

Ed smyth said at the start of the show that LD was "in Today FM working on the show today", but she is off air for the week, so he was covering for LD. In other words she was due to start this evening, but didn't.

Someone on the boards.ie, much more versed in the nuisances of radio than I, said that her last afternoon show was her best as she want 'off script' - so maybe she is a bit of a music buff.

And its good that people come to her defense here - so what if she worked for the AA and didn't cut her teeth on Pirates or as a club dj. If she has a natural ability that's all that will matter.

I presume they gave her a marian finucane length holiday to compensate for her losing her afternoon gig ?

Id be amazed if they did, didn't her ratings drop quickly on both time slots in the afternoon she was on

Wasn't bad show, bit of a mix, and then she played Beyoncé ffs

Had to switch off her Today FM show everday when it came on.... same now for Fergal D'arcy

i would have been very critical of her when she was on afternoons, I heard her for 20 minutes yesterday and it was actually decent in that she was relaxed and didn't sound out of her depth.

I generally like today fm , bar her show before hand, I gave it a shot and I must say she seems suitable for this slot, just talk about the music, none of the Inane "banter", something that's on Joe/Her.ie and awful cringy dance music...The music has improved - more indie/alternative type of music....Maybe this was the perfect slot to put her in while learning her craft..

I was beginning to warm to Louise in her old slot, but the limited Today FM afternoon playlist was putting me off. I'm actually enjoying her new show now.

Never minded her on the radio in the afternoon, although I can understand how people thought she was a bit lightweight and fluffy. The evenings will mean less pressure and allow her to be a bit more flexible music-wise. But ultimately giving her a prime time show has to be seen to be a failure by Today FM. The luxury of having seen her status rise in recent years due to being on a national station as opposed to a local or regional one means Louise luckily didn't face the total ignominy of being sacked which certainly would have happened elsewhere. I'm just wondering if Today FM have made another mistake promoting Fergal?

Sure isn't she the taking over where John Peel and Dave Fanning left off !!:D

Have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by her new show, decent music and doesn't get on my nerves like she did during the afternoon time slot.
Sadly I can't say the same about her replacement.

Cant say I hear the show regularly but the bits and pieces I hear are very good. She is keeping it simple. Say the song you are going to play, play it, say the song you have just played. There is no forced fun.

I'm just after switching off Louise Duffy after Clean Bandit was played for the 57th time today.

I'd really grown to like her show but in the last few weeks I've noticed a big sway back to what seems like the same craplist of ten 'hit' songs that Today FM rotates every eight weeks. I was actually going to post here about it yesterday as I was wondering if it was just me, but this evening's statement from Anton sheds a lot of light on the direction Today FM management are trying to go.

It's a shame as I think Louise showed potential when she was given a looser rein, but she clearly won't be given any more room to develop her own style. I'll continue to tune in for The Last Word, but other than that I'm done with Today FM - which will probably (sadly) lead to me switching off the radio altogether during the day. Humph.

I was saying the exact same earlier. The show has gone very charty in comparison to how it started. Still decent but at the rate she is going it will be a chart show by March.

The only show that plays different music is the McCloone show which is fantastic- she claimed it was going to be an alternative show but I'd hardly call Beyoncé , Adele and 90s dance alternative

Pretty disapointed by the playlist, it reminds me a lot of the show on 2fm from 8pm to 10pm except slightly more mainstream. I was hoping she'd play more indie/rock music but it's mainly pop/rnb

I think she has been reeled in a bit. At the start it was a very varied playlist, whereas now I would say its a very "safe" playlist.

Whats the appeal to having essentially the same songs on every show on today fm these days... and now basically the entire day from 9 to 4.30 will be the same exact show, "comedy" (and I use that term loosely with D'arcy and Porter)

Which was pretty much how her lunchtime/afternoon slots went.

Great mix music for the first few months and then went back to the safety of
    the playlist.

I like her show. I like the contrast of the song choice. I don't mind pop but I know a lot of people who are into specific genres, such as alt/indie, simply won't countenance anything outside their genre of choice.
