They're probably using those aerials to get Freeview from the UK

They probably have wideband aerials so they can pick up Freeview from Divis as well as Saorview from Clermont Carn. Some people on high locations on the southside of Dublin and in Dun Laoaghaire can get both of those signals with one aerial, you should have no bother in Balbriggan.

The 'green dot' group C/D frequencies will all be gone to the mobile cos. within 5 years or so. I'd use a group T (the current wideband type), if you want to do the best to ensure continued reception after this sell-off happens, & there's also the possibility of Freeview reception (Kilkeel, currently group B) with the same aerial, as mentioned already.

That is a log-periodic aerial and is a great choice.

That's a full wideband (21-69) aerial, not recommended now as it also covers the 4G mobile band (61-69) and so susceptible to interference from any nearby mobile base stations. A Group T (21-60) is recommended in the interim for Clermont Carn, as Thurston posted above, but again once another chunk of spectrum (49-60) is sold off to the MNOs in 3-4 years it too will be susceptible to interference.

Out of interest where are you picking up Freeview from? Manual tuning should tell you the nos. of the multiplexes you are receiving from.

Most of the houses in Balbriggan pick up their Freeview from Kilkeel with only a handful using Divis as they would have to change the polarity of the aerial for that and loose Clermont carn as well, unless they use a separate aerial for that.

I'm beside Balbriggan and I pick up Freeview when the weather is usually cloudy or rainy, a bit of sun and clear skies and I usually lose it, using a UHF aerial....

+1 Clermont Carn and Kilkeel are vertical polarity. While the Divis signal is a lot more powerful, it's horizontal polarity.

Out of interest ? . Would you have an example of a horizontal polarity ariel? Sorry i would nt be hugely technically minded it this area, I am currently close to balbrigan and receiving kilkeel without any amps or boosters

The same aerial works both for V or H polarisation - just turn the aerial through 90 degrees so the spikes are flat or pointing up.
