August Meetup

Let's take another stab at this, shall we? ^^' I'm thinking the end of August, either the 20th or 27th? Might give people who aren't in Dublin to sort out cheap accomadation.

    What is it?
We meet up for a few (...several) pints in a pub. It can help expand circle of friends within the gay community, put faces to some boardies and generally have a laugh.

Afterwards we usually head to the George or what not for a dance. Everyone is welcome and no pressure to attend any part of the night you're not comfortable with. You don't have to be out. You just have to bring some chat and good vibes.

    Sorry to be narky but...
In the past a lot of people have put their names down for these meetups and either don't show up/disappear from the thread. We expect around 15+ and then only 5 show. This greatly inflats the expectation of the night/booking tables and it's been disappointing. Usually same names and all.

See the night as a meetup with friends :pac: something if you say you're committing to, you'll make a great attempt to make. There's no harm done in holding off putting your name till you're a definite.

Housekeeping aside...anyone any suggestions for a new venue? Sweetmans can be a terror on a weekend night!

27th Suits me and probably 20th too but might have something on that night (not 100% sure yet).

Thanks for putting the thread up Ash

I'm definitely going to try and make it.

I would definitely reccomend everyone attend as it's a nice social occasion.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Due to my work pattern i'll probably never make it to a beers but just to note that Galway pride is on the 20th and so might exclude a few. Usually meet a few dublin residents that weekend.

Sugar! That's a great point. Maybe the 27th is a given then, and if people can't make it because of Galway pride, very understandable! (Hopefully will make Galway myself on the 20th!)

I'd be interested in going. I don't wanna put myself as a definite just yet as work gives me my roster a week in advance. I'll keep an eye on the thread.

Avoid Sweetmans and go straight to the Front Lounge or do people have any other ideas?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭Ash885

I think Front Lounge is a good idea! Once we get the seating area or even pin down a spot for the meetup! :)

If I'm around (not sure about that weekend yet) I'll come along. :)

Would love to go to one of these but I'm not sure of how work will be so can't say for definite.

But question, could I bring my boyfriend or is it Boardsies only? He's Greek and loves the typical Irish nights out (could be why we go so well together as I do aswell!!) :pac::pac:

I would have loved to go to these once but I don't think I'd be comfortable if some people turned up. It's probably true of all social occasions and maybe it's a very positive indication that being lgbt doesn't need the same sense of community that it used to and that we look on people as just people. Some we get along with and some we cannot stand! C'est la vie!

Well being comfortable at it is pinnacle! Encourage everyone to give it a try.

I'd imagine we can plough along with a list for Saturday the 27th!

    I'll be there!

All are welcome. Some of us may have differing views but hey that happens in life. LGBT people are diverse in opinions but just because I disagree with someone does not mean I would exclude them from a social space. Everyone is welcome including friends or partners of posters.

I might go to this one but I'll need to know the venue before I commit to anything.
I would suggest Pantibar, largely because I hear the caberet is supposed to be great craic and that they do €5 pitchers of in-house beer.
Never been in The Front Lounge, though. What's the atomosphere like in it?

It's relaxed enough but can get busy

I was in Panti briefly at the weekend and the downstairs might suit for a meetup as there are booths/tables which might suit a meetup?

Either that or the front of the Front Lounge, puns aside. But can decide closer to the time of either two. Great stuff!

:( I am sosososo sorry Ash but I can't make it tonight. I have Bronchitis and am on anti-biotics so there's that. But the main reason is, thru various symptoms of my illness I have damaged my vocal chords and am under doctors orders to not talk for fear of causing more serious/irreparable damage. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 750 ✭✭✭playedalive

Looks like I can't make it with work. Split shift:(. Sorry for bailing. I probably won't end up making it later. Sorry guys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭Ash885

*sigh*...sure things crop up that's grand sure. Can't help what can't be helped.

I'll be out tonight anyway. Have accommodation paI'd etc. if anyone was planning to come can message me or something...I'll be out with the buddies.

Someone can plan these in the future. I'm running out of patience with it all. Somethibgs wrong with the template that obviously aint working hah..!

Hard luck Ash. I read these thread now and again and the meet ups are not really for me anymore and that's why I don't go but they were really great when I first started going out though so it's a pity that when its organised each time so many people cancel last minute. I think it's such a pity people don't stick to what they said and go , it's really poor form. Well done to ash for organising and for everyone that keeps cancelling last minute I personally think it's lousy to waste others people's time like that.

Some of us genuinely can't go last minute. I'd have been as much fun as a stick of rock considering I couldn't drink or talk. If I hadn't got ill I'd have been there with bells on.
