Masters Track Journey

    Hui folks,

I'm a 44yr old masters trackie and I've been training for the track at my club the last 3 yrs. I'm relatively new to athletics having joined a club to get fit in 2012, I quickly realised I preferred the track to the longer stuff and started training specifically for the sprints 3 yrs ago. Last year was my first competitive year, my PB's are 13.3 for 100, 26.2 for 200m and 57.3 for 400m. I feel like my training has gone better this year and I'm fitter but my times have stalled, even though I strength train about twice a week. I'm wondering if any other masters track athletes have any advice or if they have hit walls in performances. I realise being older I am going to get slower...

    Best of luck with it.

You've a nice turn of speed for an auld lad.

Have you targeted any specific races/goals?

Have you a coach or are you following a training plan.

What sort of strength & conditioning work do you do?

    TbL

    Thanks TBL,

I am a member of a club and train with a sprint group which has a sprint coach. Most of us are masters runners.

Last year and this year I did the Leinster and National Masters Indoor and outdoor and some of the Dublin Gradeds.

S&C conditioning briefly: squats, deadlifts, lunges and some plyometrics

My goal would be to get 25s in the 200 and 56 in the 400m

    Hi Trackveteran,

You have posted this in the training logs area, you might get a response in the track and field thread in the main Athletics forum(this is a sub forum for people to log their training)

Your times seem very good, I think you have a good year ahead of you in the masters! I think if you're training in a sprint group and already strength training your coach would probably be the best person to speak to for a start.
