My Father in law, a pensioner, not paying any PAYE on his occupational pension, recently had corrective eye surgery.
Can I claim taxback on his surgery?
He paid from his own bank account but I am giving him cash for it as I had a good win on the horses. I pay tax @ higher rate.

Tax relief on medical expenses is granted at the standard rate regardless of what rate you pay income tax.

However, personally for the sake of a few quid I would not be trying to claim tax relief retrospectively due to a win on the horses and now you are now reimbursing him for his medical expenses.

If Revenue raise a query , whether or not the scenario outlined is true, Revenue have to believe it is true.
