I'd imagine it will be part of AGS, it says it will be styled on a CAB type of unit.
AGS are the state security unit.

    No.

Specialized team that has one job to focus on border security is the way to go.

it stops sections of security getting over stretched and employees can be held accountable.

I would have thought that this would have been already done my Customs & the Passport check on entry to country.

Unsure Ireland is really the most relevant place to start this sort of idea, but it may be useful. And god knows there's not a great deal that's obvious and useful to be done.

    I am a wee bit amused at;

"Why isn't anything being done about the terrorists!"
    *something is done about terrorists*
    "Why is this costing money?!"

This isn't really aimed at the OP, just a general observation on the title and various comments on newspaper articles about it.

Umm I wondering if there will be recruiting campaign for these jobs, or will the recruiting be done behind closed doors??

Does the hse cover a wide range of departments?

The article describes it as 'multi-agency security unit' - to me that sounds like it will be made up of staff from existing agencies such as AGS, Customs etc?

Seems like a good idea but unfortunately it will be a tiny group with very limited resources

A few years ago there was a group set up to tackle social welfare fraud .

In the end they gave 20 gardai access to the social welfare computers and called it a job and no more was heard

If there was an Islamic terrorist incident here, there would be people climbing over each other to see who could be outraged the most. Providing this agency is set up properly, it will probably one of the few times the state has been proactive rather than reactive.

The creme de la creme of law enforcement, backed up by a couple of reformed terrorists to add an edge along with a teenager who's an expert hacker, one or two with useful superpowers, and all led by a humourless civil servant in a black suit who the team only know as "Mr O'Brien."

And a handy acronym for a name, like Supreme Highfaluting Irish Terror Strike Unit (SHI*SU)

And the law enforcement component - men with a chequered history with Internal Affairs. Not popular in the neighborhood but they get the job done. Now they're getting a license to bend the rules.
The only rule is - take out Terrorists, Communists and Jihadists.

I don't think a state agency, by definition, can be classed as a quango.

    Dead right.
    The OP is talking rubish.
They would have to be a board or a committee to be a quango.
These will be front line men at the coal face. Doing coal face stuff. Bending rules at the coal face. Operating a secret detention centre. And getting results.

The movie will be released in 2018.
