I drive a vauxhall vectra last night while driving. I went to press brakes and they failed, brake went to floor and didnt slow car till I dropped back through gears and stopped it like so.

Can anyone give a rough overview of what happened and whats prices to have it sorted.

Sounds like you're leaking brake fluid through a brake line or the brake master cylinder has fell apart. Only a mechanic with proper diagnosis can tell you! If it's just a rusted brake line leaking fluid it could cost around €40. If the master cylinder needs to be replaced it will be more!

If it is the master cylinder do you know the general price.

Never had one replaced so wouldn't have a clue. Hopefully it's just a bit of rust on a brake line or something! It could also be a failed wheel cylinder if the rear brakes are drum brakes and not discs but it's all guesses. Ask your mechanic to find out what the issue is first ;)

If it's the usual Vectra situation where all of the rear lines will be falling apart with corrosion then it's going to cost a lot more than €40.
