    Ok,
Just sold my car, need to buy a car next week.

My preferences or what I've picked are the following.

2008/2009 Honda civics 1.4,1.8 petrols and 2.2 diesel.

    2010 ford focus, 1.6 petrol or 2009 1.8 diesel

    2010 Hyundai i30 crdi

    2010 Mazda 3 1.6 diesel

You'll see my preferences are for hatchbacks.

    Your advise is appreciated.
    Thanks

What sort of driving will you be doing?
Have you driven any of them?

You don't need any of the diesels at that milage.
My only experience of the Hyundai was an i40 and I hated it.

After that I'd have the Honda over the Mazda.

Civic 1.8 is a good choice

Good power 140bhp and not bad on fuel 40mpg real world

    Trouble free too

What sort of budget do you have?

Spotted this earlier, not sure if the price is reasonable or maybe on the cheap side. Milege is a bit high but not excessive for the year. Worth a look at maybe but would definitely want it checked out properly by a mechanic and including a detailed history check.

Can I just jump in and aske what sort of mileage you would have to be doing to consider a diesel? I'm on the look out for a new car and considering a diesel(for the first time). I do about 21000km a year.

Depends on your type of driving more than annual mileage. 10,000 km of mostly motorway mileage is more suited to diesel than 21,000 km of mostly short stop/start city driving.

    This is their website!

John - Just curious but in the done deal advert you will see a sign in the background for Lakeland Auto Village with the same tel. no. as that of Braesidemotors. Presume it is one and the same business ? By the way I have heard nothing bad about them just to ease your mind.

I am also thinking of maybe buying a car up North. Let us know how you get on with this dealer if you decide to look at or indeed buy the Focus. Good luck !

Just keep in mind the emissions tax on a 1.6 focus is €570 or something.

Thanks. Which will be easier on fuel, 1.8 civic or 1.6 focus?

    Civic.

Problem is you won't get an 09 civic for anywhere near as cheap as what you'll get an 09 focus for.

If I remember right, a regular here bought an 07 civic 1.8 for €6k a few weeks ago.
Now there are cheaper ones, but the good ones aren't cheap.

Ah decisions decisions! Phoned insurance today and they both reduce my premium, but the focus reduces it more, only by €84 , but at least something
