    Hi there,

I'm hopeful these persistent shoots are connected with a horse chestnut we pulled down (too big for small garden) but am worried they are something more sinister:

The second picture is of some of the roots.

It's very hard to dig up and it is sprouting quite a bit - under the nearby shed etc. Any solutions that will eradicate it would be welcome!

Doesn't look like a horse chestnut. It is some kind of climbing plant, reminds me of hops. But the leaves are slightly different. Whatever it is, you'll probably need round-up or some modern equivalent to kill it.

    Who's next with a guess?

emo72, do you not think the leaves are very like the horse chestnut (he asked, hopefully)?

Yeah the leaves look like horse chestnuts, but it's clumping with multiple stems. Not like a tree. But I'm not that huge an expert. Someone else will be along soon.

Edit... Get a close up of a leaf.

Thanks for the replies. Is it from the chestnut tree we pulled down or totally separate?

How can we get rid of it - it's sprouting everywhere!

When a cut-down tree sprouts from the roots it does it with multiple stems, turning into a bush or a coppice.
