The amount of Ryan boys and girls that went to the sandpit in search of a better life......the grass is not always greener on the other side!

I hope this will bring about serious changes to rostering regulations

I've always found flydubai to be a curious entity.
From what I've read on wikipedia, they have the very same owners as Emirates but are operated as an entirely separate entity. Their Ryanair-ish style & fleet are an interesting contrast to the the very high-brow EK.

Although only related by ownership, I can't help but wonder if the airline is essentially designed to be a low-cost EK feeder service (without sullying the EK brand or worrying about missed transfers).

Reading through some of the stories, I can't help but compare them to FR simply in the way that they've managed to attract obnoxious drunks. Not really a fault of the airline I feel, merely something they need to deal with (going the Ryanair route of 'Booze-free' flights might be an idea for them :D )

you think posh airlines don't have drunk incidents? Some of the wildest scenes I've seen come from Lufthansa and Emirates business class

I'd say this list is certainly a good reason to put them on EU banned airline list for a while, I hope guardian will follow up on it

I've flown a few times with them on short hops, less than an hour.

While I would describe them as functional, I wouldn't trust the crew in an emergency.

Doesn't make for good reading....the company's response is telling also. Very defensive. Says it all IMO.

The sad thing is everyone knows what it's like in these airlines, yet people still bury their heads in the sand.

Kind of goes with the territory in the middle east, no?

There will be investigations, reports and meetings and then nothing will be done!!!

I hear the EK pilots are almost as bad for overworking. But they seem to make their own rules down range and be dammed if you dont like it. Sure you could come back to Europe and work less hours etc but money motivates most!!!

    for what reason?

Let's just say my time in the Middle East has taught me that once everything goes fine, it's OK. But when something goes wrong, the true colours come out.

In my experience, staff displayed very little professionalism.

I think its a mix of the grass is always greener and a lack of research. If you want job security (relatively speaking in this industry) and a pleasant work environment then its first world airlines all the way. Head off to the sandpit or Asia at ones own peril is my belief.

I am sure a pilot writing excessive reports would get the key to the street or his work permit would ''mess up''

I think my pun may have been a little too subtle.

    Sand <---> Middle East.

It sounds like the fundamental issue is one of inadaquete staff levels? Particualrly around the crash as they refer to it in the reports. This business of imploring pilots ot use their discretionary time speaks of poor planning of staff, or simply a shortage of staff?

The company's response is the only reasonable thing they could say - if they get the staff to match their need, the response would stand. However many people might be reluctant to enter such a setup upon reading the Guardian article...

In Europe, you are not allowed to roster or pressure crew to operate in discretionary time. Outside Europe...
