    Hi all,
Time for me to get a TV.

Doesn't need to be the most amazing TV in the world, but decent quality / spec. I'm after quality more than quantity.

I will mainly be using a Chromecast and plugging in the laptop using Spotify / Kodi etc... - Am I right in saying i'm better off with a Chromecast instead of worrying about SmartTV?

Won't be getting a TV bundle.

Where do I start? I haven't a clue when it comes to TV's as haven't shopped for one in years.

    Many thanks.

I bought an LG 42 inch TV in lidl for my parents over the weekend for 450. Great TV for the money 42lf561v and if you look online you'd save an extra 50 easily as there is a newer model out. But they are bricks and mortar people. Well worth it great picture on it

Not sure about that as I only go to the one, and didn't check my cork store when I was down home. but you could ring them. if you have a google it's on Amazon for 319 sterling which is not a bad deal it's a great TV... Not smart though

All TV's available in Irish stores are UK imports anyhow, so don't be afraid to buy online from a UK based store such as Amazon if the price is right.

    They'll decode Saorview without issue.

That's interesting, wasn't aware of that.

Tempted to go for this. It has FireFox OS which seems to be actually a bit useful.

Given what you say, it can be purchased online for quite a bit cheaper.

That Panasonic comes out about €100 cheaper here, and it's a higher model number, so possibly newer? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TX-40CX680B-Smart-Inch-Freeview/dp/B00U2FE9CI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1470327853&sr=8-2&keywords=TX-40DX600B

Just to confirm: This will work with Saorview for TV & Radio?

Yes. it'll deliver Saorview without issue.

That link is from a 3rd party seller on Amazon however, so no delivery to ROI.

May be worth asking what the guys over on the Richersounds forum recommend.

Ended up buying it on a whim. Delivery via ParcelMotel.

Here's hoping saorview works! (Not the end if world if it doesn't)
