So, what the title says. Does anybody use it?

If so, how do you find it? Is the choice any good? Or is it largely new releases etc?

Whenever I go back to my family home and stop by the one in the local Supervalu, I usually see people using the machine there. So the assumption based on that would be that it's quite successful. Can't comment on the releases though. What I find crazy to think about is that the people that worked in the Xtravision store 2 minutes away are now replaced by this one machine.

Sign of the times, I guess.

Yeah its fine. The range is quite limited though, specially on blu rays.

They took one away that was near me so I only got to use it once or twice.

One flaw: you have to go to the machine to know what's in it. They should have a basic summary of stock on their website.

It's an old-fashioned view but I still want the option to rent a movie for a fiver, rather than having to buy a copy of something I missed in the cinema. Sky has the home view market sewn up but it's really a lot more money to get their extra movie package.

Yeh. Me too. I like the idea of renting a few films and getting some beers/pizza in on a quiet Friday night.

Sifting through a list of titles on Netflix just never did it for me. :(

The likelihood of getting a bad/scratched disc would put me off this, as it eventually put me off DVD-by-mail services. Also I'm guessing there aren't many Blu-rays.

There isn't many blu rays, they stopped putting new ones in at a certain point, but I've never had a scratched one.

anyone get the free dvd offer with a code

but you still have to use your debit card and a euro is deducted  whats that about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,934 ✭✭✭✭fin12

Ya I use it it's pretty good, I get them out for my dad cause he doesn't know how to use the Internet or would never watch a film on a laptop, I think it's pretty good, lots of recent releases and it's 3 euro which is really good.

Ya that happened to me aswell with the free code put it in with the first dvd I rented but was still charged a euro but I had it for 2 nights so that's why I was thinking was charged the euro.

Prop go rent out sing street soon. No annoying adds on the DVDs either, go straight to the film.

The euro gets put back into your account.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,067 ✭✭✭✭fryup

really? so why is it deducted in the first place?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

Card validation or something is it? There's a term for it. Basically so they can keep charging you if you keep the disc longer than a night.

    I think it's called preauthorisation.

The euro should be deposited back into the account.

If its not there already, it won't be at all. The blu ray came out in March?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,934 ✭✭✭✭fin12

Thats what I'm saying. If it was going to be out for rent, it would already be out for rent, cos they put them in on the weekend of release. As in, I'd say its unlikely it ever will be.

Has the finest hours been released, haven't seen it for sale in Goldendiscs.

My local one has almost no blu-rays. I've also got loads of scratched discs. Most the movies they email me about are never in my local Kiosk. Not out of stock never in there at all.

I used to like it, but the service has dis-improved massively over the last year. I stopped using it. I suspect all its not well.

Disney don't offer a lot of their films for rent in order to drive sales. So yeah, possibly never as MilesMorales said.
