Hi Does anyone have experience of extraction fans for use with a hob on a kitchen island with downdraft extraction or alternative.They are very pricey but not sure about the effectiveness? Thanks in advance.

I agree with your two conclusions, especially since the are trying to defeat the basis science of hot air rising.
